Dial a Ride was the first service of its kind to operate in Gloucestershire and we have at our disposal a fleet of twelve specially adapted vehicles. The service provides door-to-door transport for all members of the community who may have difficulty using public transport or traveling by car. If you are able to travel by car, we also have voluntary drivers who may be able to help with your needs. Operated by Newent Association for the Disabled, we have a caring body of people, many of whom are voluntary, and are there to assist you in many ways.
All transport services operate under a special permit that allows us to help people of limited mobility and enable them to lead a more independent life. There are no upper or lower age limits and therefore our services are available to anyone, both during temporary disablement and for longer periods of time. Your doctor, health visitor or other practitioner is able to refer you to us, but you may also contact us directly. It is not our intention to take passengers away from other transport providers.
REGISTRATION
A registration fee of £5 is payable, this entitles you to use the service as often as you wish for a period of one year. The fee helps us to provide basic insurance cover and contributes to other administrative costs. Completed registration forms may be returned by post or given to any driver.
SERVICES WE OFFER
- This service covers the North Forest of Dean.
- Regular shopping days to Newent, Gloucester, Cinderford and areas in the Forest of Dean.
- Appointments with doctors, dentists, opticians, hospitals, hairdressers etc.
- Social and club and Day Centre visits
Special days away are organized at intervals. (These are dependent on suggestions from clients and operate within a reasonable distance from Newent). Posters advertising these will be found on our minibuses and in our charity shop.
Attendants are available by prior arrangement
The transport service operates between 9:00am and 5:00pm Monday to Friday except for statutory Bank holidays. Both paid and volunteer drivers staff it and therefore evening and weekend trips may be arranged by special request.
PLEASE NOTE THAT NONE OF THESE SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE ON BANK HOLIDAYS, CHRISTMAS OR NEW YEAR.
