Charity Shop and Fundraising

Our Charity Shop can be found in the surroundings of the “Old Shambles” in Church Street.

Newent Association for the Disabled Charity Shop

CHARITY SHOP OPENING TIMES

Monday – Friday 9am – 4.30pm

Saturday 9.30am – 4.30pm

We are a local charity benefiting local people. All the income generated from the donations that we receive is invested back in to the Association providing direct services to people in the North Forest area.

Through our comprehensive second hand book service based in our Charity Shop in the Old Shambles, Newent, there are many opportunities to find a bargain or a specialist limited print book.  We have recently extended the floor space for this service with a faster turnover.   If you are clearing your library we would be very pleased to find space for your unwanted books.  By giving with Gift Aid you will add 25% to the monies raised from the sale of your books.

In addition to books we have a large section of clothes and bric a brac which is constantly changing. We welcome any donations of clothes or other items suitable for selling as all profits from the shop go towards supporting activities at Sheppard House.

During 2014  working with the Ledbury Poetry Festival 25 people took part voluntarily and produced a series of works all of which are unique to people who have lived their lives in the Forest of Dean.

The poetry book Lost … And Found was officially launched at the Annual Tea Party at the end of June 2014 and then at the Ledbury Poetry Festival during July.  A number of the poets attended the event, thoroughly enjoying the experience. A £5 donation is all we ask for this lovely book which is available from the charity shop.

 FUNDING

We are a Registered Charity and rely heavily on grants and donations for our operating costs; there are different ways to help support our work. Not everyone can run a marathon but if you can we would like to hear from you; we can provide shirts and sponsorship forms.

You might like to hold an event for us, perhaps a coffee morning or afternoon tea. How about a dinner party? Quiz evening?

We can help by providing information so that you can tell your friends who you are fundraising for. Like many charities we rely on income from our own charity shop and grant making trusts.

We received financial support from the following organisations:

Gloucestershire Disability Fund, The Leeds Building Society, The Wo Street Charitable Foundation, The Newent Wine Circle, Newent United Charities Trust, Newent and District Rotary, The Gordon Gray Trust, GCC Community Activities Fund, the Summerfield Trust, the Barnwood Trust, Gloucestershire County Council, Forest of Dean District Council, The Forest of Dean Carer’s Partnership, Barclays Bank and the Lloyds Bank Foundation. Co-op, Masons, MKM

We have also been very fortunate in receiving many donations from individuals and our very generous Parish Councils; particularly at harvest time.
